Maheswar "Babu" Mohapatra was born and raised in a remote village in the Indian state of Orissa, one of nine children. He is the only member of this village ever to earn a college degree -in economics, which he subsequently taught. He also has a second degree in ancient and modern Indian history and nearly two decades' as an Experienced guide. He has provided research assistance for many years to anthropologists, writers and photographers from the United States and Europe. He is fluent in four languages and several dialects; has traveled throughout India; has lived in Kashmir; and currently lives in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, with his wife, Rupashree, and their two sons. They are the loves of his life. India is his passion.
